“NOT WORKING” REPORT BY ECONOMIST LOUISE MURPHY

A report from the Resolution Foundation – Exploring changing trends in youthworklessness in the UK, from the 1990’s to the Covid-19 pandemic (Report dated 13 th June 2022).

– The fall in worklessness has been a success story of recent decades, driving
in large part by young women
– The make-up of youth worklessness has been transformed, with economic
inactivity among young men almost doubling between 1995 and 2021
–  A dramatic fall in the number of young women who are inactive for family care
reasons, and an increase in the number of young people who are inactive due
to health problems.
– But there is a risk that the good progress in youth worklessness that has been
seen in recent decades will be undone.
