Marriott is a long-term partner of Movement to Work and The Prince’s Trust. Its work in youth employability is a key part of their Global Sustainability & Social Impact strategy, Serve 360 – Doing Good In Every Direction.

Globally 1 in 10 jobs are tied to the travel industry. Yet, youth unemployment remains disproportionately high. With robust hotel growth globally, there is much opportunity to continue to get youth ready and placed in hospitality careers. Marriott has an important role in helping prepare young people for careers in the hospitality industry. Because of the diversity of its operations and number of jobs available in its hotels, Marriott’s business is able to provide educational and work-study opportunities, such as training, mentoring, job shadowing, internships and more.

By doing so, Marriott is changing young peoples’ lives and help propel economies. Giving people opportunities to grow and succeed is part of the company’s DNA and Movement to Work is a great source of talent to Marriott’s entry-level jobs.

Marriott Case Studies

Peter, Glasgow

Peter had a difficult start in life. School wasn’t going so well for him and he experienced difficulties with his family life that resulted in periods of homelessness.

He was referred to The Prince’s Trust, where he participated in a Get into Hospitality training programme at the Glasgow Marriott.  Peter discovered his love for working with people during the programme and was offered a position of concierge after completing it.

Peter said: “My mentors at the hotel believed in me and my talents so I started to believe in myself.  I love working with the team here in Glasgow, they have become my work family and I look forward to developing myself further.”
