HMRC 4 Work Placements- 4 Weeks- Bathgate- 19/11/2018

If you are aged 18-30 and currently unemployed and registered with Job Centre Plus you are eligible for this opportunity.

HMRC is the UK’s tax, payments and customs authority.  It plays a crucial role in keeping the country running, by collecting money for public services.  HMRC also supports individuals, families and business through the likes of tax credits, statutory maternity / paternity pay, sick pay and also credit incentives.

Your placement in HMRC will see you at the heart of Civil Service, during your time with us, we will give you a flavour of what it’s like to work in a dynamic environment across a range of our departments.

What does a typical placement look like?

You will gain team working and collaboration, leadership, communications and presentation skills. Through job shadowing within different teams across HMRC at various levels, you will – gain an understanding of where work fits in with the “bigger picture”. Your day to day tasks will involve general administrative duties such as, filing and photocopying, taking minutes at team meetings, managing calendars and organising meetings and events.

Your manager (hosts) will work with you to help with your CV writing and interview skills. Learning modules are available throughout the placement on various topics such as time management, improving your communication and organisational skills – the skills employers are looking for.

Office admin with the opportunity to shadow off line staff in a number of roles over the 4 weeks to get an understanding of the types of work we do in HMRC contact centres.

What you should wear:

  • Comfortable, smart casual clothing is best. For example, trousers and a top, chinos and a shirt, a dress, or a skirt and top. Don’t worry if you have a limited wardrobe – we don’t judge.

Skills you’ll come away with:

  • Organisational, communication and Digital skills.
  • Interview techniques and making a good impact at interview

DWP 5 Work Placements- 4 Weeks- Birkenhead- 12/11/2018

The Department for Work and Pensions is the largest government department in the United Kingdom, and is responsible for welfare and pension policy.

DWP’s work experience programme is intended to support young people aged 18-30 years old, who are facing difficulty getting into work. The programme is designed to help you develop your confidence and learn new and valuable skills, and give you real, on-the-job experience of working in the Civil Service.

What does a typical placement look like?

We will help you gain greater self-confidence, and improve your organisational, communications and team working/collaboration skills – key skills that employers are looking for. We will also help you with your interview skills and CV writing. The work experience includes a personal learning journey that develops you as a leader and helps you with your wellbeing and resilience

The opportunity will provide experience of working in a busy service centre office environment. You will undertake appropriate general administrative duties. Including sending files of to a remote storage facility using a computer system (RSWEB), other ad-hoc duties such as BF lifts, arranging for cases to be exported, post sortation etc.

Will also have to opportunity to job shadow a variety of roles throughout the service centre.

Your placement in HMRC will see you at the heart of Civil Service, during your time with us, we will give you a flavour of what it’s like to work in a dynamic environment across a range of our departments.

Your time with us is really important, so that everyone gets the most out of it.  We will ask you to undertake tasks, such as attending meetings, note taking, preparing short reports and maintaining / analysing visual data.  These are all skills that will equip you for life after the placement and that will also help support us in providing the best service we can to the public.  Skills such as CV writing are also really important in getting you into work; we want to help with this as well as helping you understand the kinds of qualities that we look for in people when we are recruiting.

What does a typical placement look like?

You will gain team working and collaboration, leadership, communications and presentation skills. Through job shadowing within different teams across HMRC at various levels, you will – gain an understanding of where work fits in with the “bigger picture”. Your day to day tasks will involve general administrative duties such as, filing and photocopying, taking minutes at team meetings, managing calendars and organising meetings and events.

Your manager (hosts) will work with you to help with your CV writing and interview skills. Learning modules are available throughout the placement on various topics such as time management, improving your communication and organisational skills – the skills employers are looking for.

What you should wear:

  • Comfortable, smart casual clothing is best. For example, trousers and a top, chinos and a shirt, a dress, or a skirt and top. Don’t worry if you have a limited wardrobe – we don’t judge.

  • Interview techniques and making a good impact at interview
  • CV skills.
