HMRC Work Placement- 4 Weeks- Glasgow- 5/11/2018

If you are aged 18-30 and currently unemployed and registered with Job Centre Plus you are eligible for this opportunity.

HMRC is the UK’s tax, payments and customs authority.  It plays a crucial role in keeping the country running, by collecting money for public services.  HMRC also supports individuals, families and business through the likes of tax credits, statutory maternity / paternity pay, sick pay and also credit incentives.

Your placement in HMRC will see you at the heart of Civil Service, during your time with us, we will give you a flavour of what it’s like to work in a dynamic environment across a range of our departments.

Your time with us is really important, so that everyone gets the most out of it.  We will ask you to undertake tasks, such as attending meetings, note taking, preparing short reports and maintaining / analysing visual data.  These are all skills that will equip you for life after the placement and that will also help support us in providing the best service we can to the public.  Skills such as CV writing are also really important in getting you into work; we want to help with this as well as helping you understand the kinds of qualities that we look for in people when we are recruiting.

What does a typical placement look like?

Overview of HMRC debt collection strategy, by shadowing collectors in their day to day duties which involves reviewing cases, tracing customers, updating information and contacting the customer to obtain payment of outstanding debts due to HMRC.

You will also take part in staff engagement  showing how all staff have the opportunity to have a say in how we do things.

There will also be an opportunity to see how correspondance comes into the building is distributed and the procedure for dealing with outbound post. This opportunity will enable you to develop the following competences;

What you should wear:

•        Comfortable, smart casual clothing is best. For example, trousers and a top, chinos and a shirt, a dress, or a skirt and top. Don’t worry if you have a limited wardrobe – we don’t judge.

Skills you’ll come away with:

•        Organisational, communication and Digital skills.

•        Interview techniques and making a good impact at interview

•        CV skills.

BT work placement – 3 weeks – Glasgow – 08/10/2018

If you are aged 16-24 and currently not employed or enrolled on a training/education course you are eligible for this BT opportunity. You’ll learn skills that’ll help you get a job and you’ll get to experience what it’s like in a real workplace. You’ll get on the job experience of running a project from start to finish, working on your own and in a team. You’ll present to and work with senior BT people on your progress and achievements. After graduating we’ll support you into a job with us or another employer, or into further training.

What does a typical placement look like?

Week 1: Monday to Friday you’ll build and develop your CV and interview skills, as well as learning other digital employability skills.
Week 2: You’ll start your work placement. They vary depending on where you live and can include working in a BT Contact Centre (customer service, sales, project management and data analysis), Technical Service Operations (network monitoring, fault analysis and project support), field engineering (repairing and installing equipment), warehousing (distribution, planning and logistics) or in BT Fleet (vehicle maintenance and customer service).
Week 3: You’ll continue to gain experience in the workplace during your work placement. Wednesday to Friday, you’ll take part in a practice recruitment, have time to plan for your future and think about your short-term and long-term goals, before a graduation event to celebrate finishing your work placement with us.

What you should wear:

  • We’ll give you any safety clothing or equipment if you need it in your work placement.

Skills you’ll come away with:

  • Digital skills.
  • Interview techniques and CV skills.
  • Insight into BT operations.
  • Data mining and analysis.
